Pappics is the leading independent Paparazzi Agency in Romania. We are looking for a new Picture Desk Assistant to run the day to day operations of the agency and to liaise with National Newspapers in Romania and London . The role is varied and often challenging; providing a real career opportunity for the right person.
Responsibilities
Run the day to day requirement of the agency. From helping with editing and sending pictures/video (training will be given) to various publications, to making sure all incoming material is documented and added to the picture library with the correct captions.
Liaise with Click editorial staff and various newspapers in the UK like the Sun and the Daily Mail. This involves booking our photographers to cover events for the newspapers as well as selling in stories we have produced.
Build relationships with clubs, hotels, music promoters etc in Romania to make sure we have accreditation for all up and coming events that are of international interest.
Manage the day to day activity of all photographers working for the agency when the picture editor is on his days off.
Monitor Romanian and UK publications for our published stories and keep a cuttings book.
Monitor the TV, radio and read the papers every day for stories that warrant further investigation.
Run day to day needs of the office. From paying the bills and facilitating client meetings to making sure there is coffee in the jar and all camera equipment is fully charged and ready to go.
Ideal candidate; You need to be -
Interested in working in mass media and think it's the coolest job ever. We are passionate about what we do and any one who says “ I am not interested in these kind of people” does not last long. You need to know who is who in the Mondem world in Romania as well as international stars who will be coming to visit. You also need to be up in current affairs and know who is who in the political world.
Highly organised. Photographers by nature are not the best at paper work and so someone has to be! Administration skills and telephone/internet communication skills are essential for the role.
Able to speak good English to liaise with newspapers in the UK and the owner of the agency who does not speak Romanian.
Able to manage a bunch of maverick guys who sometimes need a tight rein keeping them on track. “They won't listen to me” is not an option.
Able to make decisions. There are two photographers and four stories to cover, make a decision which story gets covered and make it right.
Willing to work weekends some times and late as and when required. When a big event is on, every one is involved and as you will be coordinating them, you don't say “It's 17.30, I am going home.” You support your team and see the job through.
You need to have read Click, Cancan and Libertatie on the day of your interview ;)
You do not need to have any qualifications or experience for this job. A degree in journalism does not teach you how to write in a tabloid way or decide what story will make the front page . Your passion for Mondem and your will to succeed in this industry will take care of that.
Salary neg depending on experience and ability.
The position is available immediately. The office is located in Paita Romana.
