The IT Operations Engineer handles alerts and failures highlighted by the IT monitoring systems and takes appropriate actions to resolve them. When necessary, utilises support from technical experts within the organisation and third parties, as required, in order to provide a resolution.

IT Operations Engineers have to solve a variety of network and application problems, including those that may not have standard resolution methods. In such cases, they have to be able to apply methods based solely on their own technical knowledge.
Responsibilities:
• Handle alerts and incidents and follow them through completion or escalation - analyse the alert or incident and, depending on complexity and resolution time constraints, either solve it or seek help;
• Collaborate with remote teams, customer technical staff or third parties, to resolve alerts and incidents;
• Assess, troubleshoot and escalate user problems to specialized teams when necessary;
• Ensure that monitoring is in place for all IT and service assets as triggered by change control or the introduction of new services, and regular auditing of IT and service assets for compliance to standards;
• Grasp information in several formats, including print, verbal and pictorial representations, and improve the existing knowledge base;
• Work on a shift pattern schedule.
Match Your Skills
We are looking for people accustomed to working in large, IT-focused environments and that have previous experience (2 years or more) on a technical role. You should also have good English skills (written & spoken).
Mandatory skills:
• Good Linux server administration skills (preferably Centos/RHEL);
• Shell Scripting experience;
• File system manipulation;
• Ability to configure standard services (DNS, SNMP, etc.);
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking and diagnosis;
• Performance analysis and monitoring (Nagios, cacti);
• Enterprise Server Hardware;
• Windows Server system administration;
• Performing routine audits of systems and software;
• Analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues;
• Performance monitoring and capacity management.
Desirable skills:
• Storage array hardware and server connectivity / SAN technology;
• IBM Websphere;
• VMware and virtualization;
• Awareness of Google Apps and support in a business environment.
